Anything is Possible

Anything is Possible.

In 2015, Syrian sisters Yusra and Sara Mardini found themselves halfway across the Aegean Sea on a sinking rubber dinghy – packed with 18 men, women and children attempting to escape their war-torn home of Syria – when the engine stalled.

Knowing the overpacked boat would sink if it couldn’t reduce weight, Sara and Yusra leapt into the ice cold water. The sisters would spend the next three hours in the open sea before, incredibly, the boat made it safely to the Greek island of Lesbos. All 18 passengers survived.

The next time the sisters would take to water together – having already proved anything is possible simply by making their eventual destination in Germany – was a local swimming club near the refugee centre they were living. Just a year later, Yusra found herself in Rio as part of the newly formed refugee team at the 2016 Olympic Games.

She would go on to make global headlines by winning a heat at the Olympic Games, with Netflix telling their remarkable story in “The Swimmers”.

Anything really is possible.
