ECB and Cricket World Cup scoop Sport Industry Awards

The ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) and ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 both picked up BT Sport Industry Awards last night in recognition of their pioneering work in 2018.

The ECB was victorious in the Fan/Community Engagement category for Player Comms – the data-driven content marketing platform created and activated with Two Circles to increase engagement and playing frequency in grassroots cricket.

The judges said they were “impressed by the relevant use of technology and CRM to create a well-packaged tool ideally suited for its target audience”.

Player Comms also “delivered a superb return on investment by creating a new asset already valued higher than the spend,” they added.

In the Data and Insight category, meanwhile, the Cricket World Cup (pictured) was recognised for creating one of the most sophisticated data-driven ticket sales strategy ever. Working with Two Circles, Cricket World Cup ensured the tournament will be the most diverse cricket tournament of all-time, breaking ticketing revenue records in the process.

“The brains behind this demonstrated strategic-thinking with impressive results,” said the judges. “Their strategy showed a very effective use of budget, delivering strong financial figures, while helping cricket along the way.”

Two Circles clients the European Tour (Event of the Year), England Netball (Sport Organisation of the Year), Wimbledon (Media Content Award) and The FA (Communications Award, Film Content Award) also picked up awards, while the ECB’s ‘South Asian Action Plan’ initiative was victorious in the Diversity and Inclusion category.
